ARTIST STATEMENT
For me, creating art is directly correlated with how I process life as a constantly shifting person. By creating a tangible, physical object, I’m able to make my thoughts more concrete and manageable. The ideas I can’t convey in words to others can be expressed visually. I feel that this aspect of self-expression is what’s important to me in regards to creating art. I try to introduce a sense of understanding and connection between me and the viewer. I do this through addressing the aspects of existing as a human, whether it’s the use of body imagery, acknowledgement of our mortality, or examining the shift between emotions.
The other main part of my art process is toying with materials and mediums. I research how different materials can be manipulated because I’m intrigued by the idea of using objects for things not of their intended use. The notion of learning the basics of any discipline in order to know exactly how to break those preset rules is what makes art fun.
